. But the judges said that although Khadr and Hamdan had been classified “enemy combatants”, they had not been tagged as “unlawful enemy combatants” as required by new rules drawn up by the US congress.

The Military Commissions Act that George Bush, the US president, signed last year, says specifically that only those classified as “unlawful” enemy combatants can face war trials, the judge in Khadr’s case, Colonel Peter Brownback, noted during his arraignment.

Journalists hold protest action in front of the court

. Journalists not allowed into court process of Farhad Aliyev and other formers held a protest action in front of Grave Crimes Court, Reporters Freedom and Security Institute told ANS PRESS. Report says that most of those not allowed were representatives of opposition newspaper.

Parties present mixture of left and right candidates

. Tuğrul Türkeş, son of the MHP’s legendary leader Alparslan Türkeş, has returned to the party to become the MHP’s Ankara candidate. Bahçeli himself will be running for Parliament from Osmaniye, his hometown, while retired Gen. Kürşat Atılgan has been given the first position in Adana. Former Ambassador Gündüz Aktan, Professor Mithat Melen and former Interior Minister Meral Akşener have been assigned top positions in İstanbul.

Beirut bomb follows camp clashes

. Since Friday, the army has conducted an intensive assault on the group’s positions at the camp’s entrances with the aim of wiping out the group.

John Cookson, Al Jazeera’s correspondent at Nahr al-Bared, said the Lebanese army called Monday’s attack the “final stages” of its assault on the camp.

He said the attacks “came in waves”, adding that “secret Lebanese security forces are inside the camp, electronically painting buildings they believe fighters are in. It takes hours, or even a day or so to get the guns lined up”.

Iranian President to visit Azerbaijan
