Azeri military aircrafts overfly Baku

. Military aircrafts were seen overflying Baku on June 8. The Defense Ministry press officer Ilgar Verdiyev told APA that the aircrafts were those of Azerbaijan Military Air Forces.

Space shuttle Atlantis blasts off

. The shuttle, containing seven astronauts, launched at 7.38pm [2338 GMT] and reached orbit nine minutes later, on Nasa’s first shuttle mission of the year.

During their 11-day trip, the seven Atlantis astronauts plan to install a 16-tonne truss segment on the ISS and deliver a third set of solar panels, as well as batteries for the orbiting laboratory.

Azerbaijani president leaves for St. Petersburg

. Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents Ilham Aliyev and Robert Kocharian will have the next round of negotiations on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict tomorrow in St. Petersburg.
OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will today arrive in St. Petersburg to attend the negotiations.

Target: Turkish world, Putin Offers Further Missile-Defense Ideas

Putin made his comments at a press conference at the close of a Group of Eight summit in Heiligendamm, Germany.

Spain arrests Basque leader

. Prosecutors say Otegi in effect praised terrorism, which is a crime in Spain, during the speech at the rally.

Otegi’s lawyer said the politician was exercising his right to free speech, but a five-judge panel at the supreme court ruled unanimously against the appeal.
