Iraq says ready for dialogue with Turkey

. Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari over the weekend expressed Iraq’s readiness for a meeting with Turkish officials to hold talks on activities of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Ankara’s other concerns.
In an interview with the BBC’s Arabic service, Zebari repeated his country’s opposition to a military operation by the Turkish military to crack down on PKK bases and emphasized that all the problems could be resolved through dialogue.

Georgian Premier Rejects Kosovo-Abkhazia Analogy

. “The future of Abkhazia could only be decided by the whole prewar population of Abkhazia, not only by those who have managed to ethnically cleanse the region and are claiming independence right now,” he said.

Noghaideli accused the pro-Moscow separatist regime in Abkhazia of ethnically cleansing the region and declaring independence.

Georgia’s complex relations with Russia was another topic covered at the meeting.

Afghan president survives attack

Karzai was giving a speech to the elders and residents of Andar district in Ghazni province when rockets were fired nearby, Ali Shah Ahmadzai, the provincial police chief, said.

Several injured in Istanbul blast

. The incident comes against a backdrop of increasing tension between the Turkish military and Kurdish separatists.

Celalettin Cerrah, Istanbul police chief, said: “It is still not certain what kind of bomb it was.”

Turkish authorities have warned of possible attacks on civilian and security targets by the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK), a Kurdish separatist group, before national elections on July 22.
