Erdogan holds back from Iraq raids, PKK has offered the government a ceasefire

. Erdogan said on Tuesday that there has been no resolution with the PKK domestically and, therefore, talk of an Iraq invasion was a long way off.

“Has the fight with the 5,000 terrorists finished domestically that we should now be talking about Iraq?” he said.

Turkey has warned of a cross-border offensive into northern Iraq, where an estimated 4,000 PKK members are based and from where the group is accused of staging attacks into Turkey.

The Justice and Development (AK) party government has said it backs the Turkish army, which has recommended the cross-border offensive

Azerbaijan Way Political Movement tohold a rally on June 23

. Azerbaijan Way Political Movement (AWPM) has taken decision to hold a next rally on June 23 demanding Tariff Council to reconsider its 6 January 2006 decision, press service of AWPM told ANS PRESS. Organization committee was set up with this regard and letter was sent to Baku Executive Power to ensure the security of the rally.

Novruz Mammadov: The Presidents met, but it is hard to say something on any progress

. - The main aim of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to St. Petersburg was to attend the informal summit of the CIS and continue the negotiations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The summit was normal, the Presidents touched upon current state and prospects of the CIS. The main summit will be held in autumn in Dushanbe. No document was signed as the summit was informal.

Hamas-Fatah truce breaks down

. Despite the freeze on direct aid, the EU extended aid indirectly through a mechanism that avoided the Hamas-led government, increasing aid in 2006 to reach about $934m.

But Fayyad said the PA’s economic hardships would not be resolved until Israel released hundreds of million of dollars in customs duties that it has withheld since Hamas took power.

. “These children describe their previous life in terms of wars, abject and relative poverty, years of physical and sexual abuse, miscarried abortions, prison, witnessing murders, neglect and a desire to escape,” the report says. “Some of the girls believed they were being rescued from their destitution and still refer to these persons who brought them to the UK as their rescuers.”
