Seven dead in Wisconsin after deputy opens fire

. A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed six young people in the northern Wisconsin town of Crandon before being killed himself after a manhunt, a local TV station reported on Sunday, quoting police and witnesses.

The Forest County Sheriff’s Department said seven people were dead, including the shooter, Tyler Peterson, according to a report on the WJFW-TV Web site.

Sudan Contests US on Genocide Label for Darfur

. A 2005 accord ended two decades of civil war between Sudan’s Arab-dominated government and mostly Christian and animist rebels in the south of the country - a conflict separate from the Darfur crisis.

Speaking at the end of a 10-day trip to Sudan, U.S. Special Envoy Andrew Natsios said he is deeply concerned that the peace deal could falter over border questions, the sharing of Sudan’s oil wealth, and other issues. He urged renewed efforts to fully implement the provisions of the accord.

Inquiry finds Blackwater at fault

. Iraq says it plans to take legal steps against security guards from the US firm Blackwater who “deliberately killed” 17 Iraqis in last month’s shooting incident in Baghdad.

Ali al-Dabbagh, a government spokesman, said a high-level inquiry found no evidence that the personnel from the security firm had come under fire during the incident.
