Member of Working Group on Human Rights: Government representatives told us pardon decree will be signed on the eve of Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis

Working Group on Human Rights represented by government representatives and rights defenders held meeting today, member of the Working Group, rights defender Saida Gojamanli told the APA.

The main debates were linked with the expected pardon decree in the meeting attended by the head of Presidential Office’s department for working with law-enforcement bodies Fuad Alasgarov, head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov, representatives of General Prosecutor’s Office, Interior and Justice Ministries, Supreme Court.

“The meeting aimed at learning opinions, proposals of the rights defenders on the decree. We were told that the decree will be signed on December 31-on the eve of Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis. It was also noted that Pardon Commission has reviewed 550 appeals by now,” she said.

Saida Gojamanli said that government representatives said that pardon appeals written by the prisoners in Pardon Commission are the theme of the debate.

“We learnt that Mirza Sakit, Faramaz Allahverdiyev and Yashar Agazada among imprisoned journalists did not write pardon appeal. And Mirza Sakit’s family did not appeal to the commission,” she said.

The rights defender saying that they regard necessity of the continuation of the activity of Working Group said that they agreed to have next meeting of the organization in early next year-after pardon decree is signed.apa
