Azerbaijan’s National Security Ministry and Sumgayit police detained three men renting a house in Sumgayit. Sources in law-enforcement bodies told APA that two of the detainees were accused of resisting the police and sentenced to 15 days.

Sumgayit resident Rafael Rahimov faced charges under article 228 (illegal bearing of firearms) of the criminal code and was arrested. He is now held in National Security Ministry’s detention place.

National Security Ministry’s Gusar branch and the region police carried out the operation in order to detain 31-year old Gusar resident Telman Abdullayev.

Telman Abdullayev fired on inspector of Gusar region police office Galib Guliyev and district police officer Murad Malikov. Guliyev died.

Telman Abdullayev, who is said to be wahhabist, has not been arrested yet.

On September 30, National Security Ministry’s Khachmaz branch searched the houses of wahhabists in Khudat – former imam of Khudat Nadir Khosrovoglu, activist of Azerbaijan National Independence Party Shaban Eyvazov and Karabakh veteran Vagif Talibov. A lot of religious literature, one rifle, one dagger and other things were found. Shaban Eyvazov and Vagif Talibov were taken to the police, but later released.apa
